The Power of Wizkid Features and Some Artists that Benefited

Wizkid is about taking the throne as king of “Afrobeats”, however, Fela Kuti is still on the throne as the one true king of Afrobeat, the music pioneer and one who represented all the music stands for.

Meanwhile, Wizkid has so contributed to cultural progress as he even stands the chance of being a source of inspiration to other creators beyond West Africa.

His laid back contribution on the remix of Drake’s 2016 “One Dance”, deserves a legit cut as it stands the test of time, representing his days of little beginning as one of the crosses over acts who gained organic exposure; it was the record before “Ojuelegba” that secured his place and ushered him and became his credential evidence as one of the most valued successful crosses over acts from West Africa.

Currently, he has earned the most prestigious Grammy plaque for his contribution to Beyonce’s 2019 Lion King: The Gift project, for the iconic “Brown Skin Girl” respectively, which also reflects the beauty and significance of the African woman. Beyonce likened the album as her love letter to Africa which makes it that relateable and heavily symbolic.

Wizkid released his fourth studio album Made In Lagos, in 2020, recording a mega-hit record off the album which also had contributions drawn from the new generation creator Tems, on the track titled “Essence” which Wizkid broke boundaries with, earned a remix with it also, featuring the Canadian most beloved Justin Bieber. Now, he has become a Grammy nominee with the same track off the deluxe version.

Wizkid has brought the culture much closer through the same record, with the listeners connected and enjoying the music.

Sizably, a Wizkid feature has eventually sparked a series of records up from LK Kuddy’s “With You” remix featuring himself and Yung6ix. Wizkid’s feature offers evident visibility of creators alongside, yet, it has brought culture some reasonable impact in between.

In 2011, his alluring vocal contribution on Samklef’s “Molowo Noni” featuring D’Prince, became a smash hit as at then. Molowo Noni is a record almost every average Nigeria youth cherished and loved for its duality, they felt so connected to it for it was with the pop staples as much as the rap blends which it was carefully offered with; while Wizkid’s effort isn’t worth despising on the song either.

In 2014 after Runtown was introduced into the Nigerian music soundscape, 2015 dawned and it unfolded with his debut studio album “Ghetto University”, which was rather appreciated than despised for what it came with.

First, Wizkid powered tracks from the album including “Lagos To Kampala” and “Bend Down Pause”. Secondly, both tracks are smashed hits off the album, while finally, they also became revellers’ most trusted instruments as they both gained massive popularity across West Africa regions.

LAX also secured a hit with the magic of Wiz’s vocal and infectious melodic dexterity. “Caro” became fans’ favourite and a sing-along song at the time.

Even Kcee, the “Limpopo” crooner traded verses with Wizkid to earn a fair share with his 2013 “Pull Over” which he became everyone’s most beloved love for the record’s sake; it raked sizable influences in his career run currently not fully appealing to pop audience.

In 2016 however, Patoranking tapped an excellent pop staple with “This Kind Love”, it was an infectious and relateable record everyone loved and danced in reckless abandon. CDQ never slipped off, he secured the same year with “Nowo Soke”, which kept revellers closer than they can ever be.

Everyone who loves nightlife must have created strong memories with this record, trust me, “Nowo Soke” during the festivities of 2016 never left our lives the same way, however, the magic was Wizkid’s.

Maleek Berry’s “The Matter” isn’t an exception either, nor is DJ Spinall’s 2018 “Nowo” produced by Killertunes which chronicled us part of the best moments of our lives to date. Wizkid is powerful, indeed.
