An upcoming artiste, Anthony Uchechukwu aka King of Madness, has threatened to sue the Nigeria Police Force N500m for indiscriminate arrest and unlawful detention.
The artiste stated this in an interview with The Punch after he was released recently by the Lagos State Police Command.
The artiste was paraded as a criminal suspect at the command headquarters in mid-July.
Narrating his arrest, Uchechukwu said that policemen stopped the Uber ride he had boarded to a show at Lekki around 10.45pm.
“It was not even up 11pm when the police stopped me
“I am too classy and they can’t see me and not stop me but after all the search, they didn’t see any exhibit on me.
“They now said the DPO wanted to see me that I have constituted (a) nuisance,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, had later said:-
“The King of Madness has been released; he was released after a proper background check on him. We discovered that he has a means of livelihood like many others.”
However, King of Madness said he would drag the police to court to pay damages for the humiliation.
“They want to send me to jail for an offence I didn’t commit. For the first time in my life, I felt really bad,” he said, adding that the police failed to respect “human rights”.
“They just added me up to some of their criminals so that it will be like they caught many criminals, that is a big lie. And I will be suing the police for N500m. My identity does not define me, my hair does not define me, my tattoo does not define me, I am an educated citizen of Nigeria,” the artiste stated.
