Undeniably one of the hottest and most exciting talents of recent years, British-Nigerian singer-songwriter Moelogo continues to show why he is the name destined to be on everyone’s lips with the release of his brand new singles, the soulfully melodic and thought-provoking ‘Shine Your Light’ and the infectious, summer-ready Afro fusion sounds of ‘Sometimes I Pray’, featuring UK artist Tiggs Da Author.
Set to feature on his just-announced, forthcoming third EP Shine Your Light, the tracks – written by Moelogo with production from Jay Weathers on the EP’s title track and P2J on ‘Sometimes I Pray’ – demonstrate Moelogo’s flair for crafting captivating and uplifting material, with compelling storytelling and textured themes and concepts. The new music follows his second EP Ìréti, which The FADER described as “an Afropop dream” and spawned popular tracks such as ‘Some Say’ and ‘My City’, 2014’s underground hit ‘The Baddest’ featuring Giggs, and the game-changing ‘Pénkéle’.
On his new singles, Moelogo said, “‘Shine Your Light’ and ’Sometimes I Pray’ are a way of me talking to the younger generations and telling them to be yourself, regardless of outside pressures. Do what you love and what comes from your heart. Don’t do what the majority wants you to do. Even if one person appreciates what you do, that’s a blessing, as working to carve your own path isn’t an easy thing to do”.
“From ‘Ìréti’ to this new EP, I want to show that whatever you’re going through, there is someone out there who will listen. One of the main reasons I make music is to let my pain out and be true to myself rather than trying to fit into what everyone else is doing. I want people to be able to learn through my story. I’m open and this is 100% me”.
Since bursting onto the scene with his breakthrough single ‘Pangolo’, Moelogo has been making serious moves. Releasing his debut EP Moe Is My Name, Music Is My Logo in 2013 – which introduced the world to his unique sound which draws on his love for artists ranging from Afrobeat legends such as Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade to the likes of soul icon Curtis Mayfield and modern R&B and dancehall – he has gone on to collaborate with artists such as Davido, Sneakbo, Wretch 32, Avelino, Mr Eazi, Maleek Berry, Sarkodie and Mostack. He has recently been working on new material in the studio with Ghetts, Da Beat Freaks and Juls.
Moelogo brings his passion for authentic music to his mesmerising live offering which has seen him perform memorable sets for Boiler Room, RedBull and at last year’s pre MOBO Awards party, where he was nominated for ‘Best African Act’ for the second consecutive year.
Earlier this month he took his must-see stage performance to this year’s SXSW music festival.
Already garnering overwhelming support from outlets such as Complex, The FADER, SBTV, BBC 1Xtra, Beat FM, Capital Xtra, Bang Radio and some of Africa’s leading online publications, Moelogo is set to truly make his mark on the international music scene. And this is just the start!
