In a bid to put an end to quackery in the Ogun State Health Sector, the authorities of the state have shut down at least 12 privately owned hospitals operating without licences in Ijebu areas of the state.

This is just as an illegal mortuary, which was uncovered in Ago-Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state, was also closed down.

The discovery and closure of the illegal facilities were carried out by the State Monitoring Team, Department of Hospital Services in the State Ministry of Health, during the just concluded revalidation/registration of all private health facilities in the state.

The team was led by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye and the Permanent Secretary, Dr Nafiu Aigoro.

‘’The state government can no longer continue to lose innocent citizens through quackery. The state will henceforth, enforce owners of private health facilities to follow the best health care operating standard that meet up with the international standard of health care services. Owners will also provide proof of ownership, certificate, and other relevant documents before operating in the state,” Dr Ipaye said.
The commissioner said the activities were carried out under the Private Hospitals and other Health Establishments Registration Edict of 1988, noting that seven hospitals were shut in Ijebu Igbo and five in Ijebu Ode, stressing that the exercise would be carried out across the 20 local government areas of the state.
