It’s been exactly ten years since the release of wizkid classic debut album, “Superstar.”
The album, released under Banky W‘s now-defunct Empire Mates Entertainment music imprint, is the best-selling Afrobeats album (according to Wiki).
“Superstar” is known to have sold 5 million copies within a year of release and it made Wizkid a household name across the country.
The album release was preceded by the release of Wizkid‘s first three singles; “Holla At Your Boy,” “Tease Me/Bad Guys,” and “Don’t Dull.”
Other hits from the album include “No Lele,” “Pakurumo,” “Love My Baby” and the D’Prince-assisted “Wadup,” among others. In fact, every single was a hit!
With the amazing tracklist and an ensemble guest list of Wande Coal, Banky W, D’Prince, and Skales, “Superstar” had everything it needed to become a classic. And it did it!
Ten years down that road, three studio albums later, many awards and nominations, and “Superstar” is still Wizkid‘s most acclaimed project. It is also one of, if not the best debuts of all time.
Let’s hear from you.
