In case you missed it, the year 2017 is already half spent and it seems like we are yet to get down to serious business as regards the Nigerian music industry. Honestly, it has been boring, except for news of our Nigerian artistes welcoming new babies with their ‘American-based girlfriends’ and the renewed rivalry between Nigerian pop superstars Wizkid and Davido.

Notwithstanding, we have had some very hot Nigerian songs feature on our various playlist. Obviously, Davido and Wizkid have been very dominant this year on the music scene with very delectable songs.

From the avalanche of latest naija songs so far released, we have sieved through the very best and arguably the hottest tunes to have dropped in the upper half of 2017.

10Niniola – Maradona

House music champ and Nigerian songstress Niniola has one of the best singles to have dropped in the first half of 2017. ‘Maradona’ follows her already established niche of house music; as usual, Sarz came through with a very vibrant production. Niniola blessed the Sarz produced beat with scintillating lyrics and vocals.

9Seyi Shay – Yolo Yolo

Miss Deborah Oluwaseyi dropped ‘Yolo Yolo’ in January and so far the song has received decent reviews as well as good airplay on both radio and television. Seyi Shay served a good blend of the Caribbean salsa vibe and highlife with her song. ‘Yolo Yolo’ signifies the slender singer is back in the game after her debut album.

8Psquare – Nobody Ugly

The Okoye twins are not retiring anytime soon, as the duo strive yearly to register their names on the Nigerian music charts. Psquare are keeping up with the game; so far they have made two releases this year, ‘Away’ and ‘Nobody Ugly’. The later has become a fan favorite with over 6 million views on YouTube. Peter and Paul Okoye preach that people are merely broke and not ugly with their song.

7Tiwa Savage – All Over

Mavin Records First Lady and mother of one has been called the ‘African Beyonce’ by American rapper Fat Joe. That statement holds so much truth as Tiwa Savage can almost do no wrong with her music releases. The singer dropped ‘All Over’ in April and the tune has been topping the music charts ever since its release. Tiwa is queen!

6Runtown – For Life

Douglas Agu has not recovered from the success of his November released ‘Mad Over You’. Runtown has discovered what works for him and he is bent on exploiting that sound. The singer dished us another lovely jam ‘For Life’ which looks like a sequel to ‘Mad Over You’, regardless, the track is still bursting the airwaves and fans love it.

5Tekno – Yawa

How would it look like if Tekno missed out from the list? The artiste is still very much a rave. He has a chart topper ‘Yawa’ one of the hottest naija songs which has been in heavy rotation and a street favorite. The tune currently has over 8 million views on video sharing platform YouTube and still counting.

4Davido – Fall

Everybody by now knows Davido is vexing this year. OBO is sitting high on Nigerian music charts with his non-complex and straight forward hit record ‘Fall’. To all those reading this may ‘Money fall on you’. Several witty lines have been extracted from the song, ‘Fall’ issa hit.

3YCEE – Juice

Doctors recommend you drink more water, but YCEE says you can have all these ‘Juice’ and sauce. Tinny Entertainment front man YCEE is the hottest rapper at the moment thanks to his song ‘Juice’ which features singer and music producer Maleek Berry. The track which is off his ‘The First Wave’ EP is currently wreaking havoc on the airwaves.

2Wizkid – Come Closer

Recently crowned Best International Act: Africa, at the BET awards 2017, Wizkid scored a master stroke with ‘Come Closer’. Wizkid featured American Canadian rapper Drake on this one. The tune is as big as it gets with over 27 million views on YouTube since video release in March. The song is not only enjoying radio play here in Africa but also in the US.
