How WizKid Ruined Reekado Banks With One Tweet — Is His Career Over Now?

It’s hard to believe that Reekado Banks really had the potential to be what Burna Boy is today.

He had the talent. And in 2015, when he won Next Rated over Lil KeshKiss Daniel and others, he was poised for great things.

Okay, and then he left Don Jazzy‘s Mavin Records, and it instantly started looking like he was a fluke. Understandable, no more big budget, no more payola, no more high tech music videos, just the music.

Truth be told, for a few years, Reekado Banks was still able to wow us with his performances. He especially had an impressive run from 2017 – 2019, where he released quite a number of hit singles (“Jeje,” “Like,” “Rora” etc.)

But never could he pull off a full project anymore. The hype and buzz around his name just wasn’t enough to do something like that. It would fail woefully. Unless of course, there was a catch.

Fast forward to 2020, he’d finally found that catch. It was Wizkid. The biggest artist in Africa, who was gearing for the release of his long-anticipated studio album, “Made in Lagos.”

Besides the fact that Wizkid is very good at what he does, his influence is just inexplicable. He’s given people hits when they needed it most. It just made sense that if anyone was going to help bring back our Reekado, it had to be Wizkid.

Then End SARS happened, Reekado fucked up, promoted his song (the one that had Wizkid on it) with the End Police Brutality hashtags.

This aggravated Wizkid, as you can understand and things went sour from there.

Reekado would not apologize, Wizkid definitely wouldn’t. So, that’s it. There was no way the WizKid-assisted “Omo Olomo” was ever going to make it to Reeky’s “Off The Record” EP.

So, what happens when the only thing people were looking forward to on a project gets taken off in that manner? It hadn’t even received a proper release and isn’t currently on streaming platforms.

That was probably Reekado Banks‘ chance at making a hit, and Wizkid ruined it, for reasons that we all know.

He went on to drop the EP, but it just wasn’t the same anymore. Reekado Banks has fallen off.

Is This The End Of The Road For Reekado Banks Or He Still Has A Chance?
